Keeping up New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions is a popular thing that many people observe. It’s a bit of a trendy way to start and bring new hope to the new year ahead. I personally don’t make resolutions for the new year, but if you do or your children would like to here are a few tips at how to master the resolution.

Choose something that you are capable of doing. For example most of us are unlikely going to fly to the moon in 2015, but if we put our mind to it, we could be successful in working hard to remember using our manners.

Plan out your resolution. If you decide to improve your manners this year, just saying that without having a plan in place is likely going to fizzle out and forget. Figure out how you plan to tackle this. Could you wear an elastic band on your hand and every time you forget to say Please or Thank you snap the band and say “manners” to remind yourself.

Set review dates. How frequently do you need to review this to see if you are being successful or if you are just forgetting? Maybe initially you need to check in with yourself once a week and then once every other week and then once a month. If you don’t set review dates again the resolution make fade away until next year when you say “oh ya, manners”.

Reward or revise – if you are meeting your goals there should be a reward. Decide what it is in advance and put it in place so you have something to work towards. If you aren’t meeting your goals, why not? Where are things going wrong. Recheck and rethink how you can make this successful.

Good Luck!!!
