Paranormal News Update #22

This story has been making its way all over social media but I first saw it on Mysterious Universe.org

Make $64,000 per year as a Nanny in a Haunted House.

What scares you more? Toddlers or a haunted house? How about toddlers in a haunted house? If none of that fazes you there’s a $64,000 a year nanny job waiting for you in Scotland. A family is advertising around the world for a nanny to care for their two kids and multiple ghosts after losing five previous nannies in less than 12 months. How bad can it be?

We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years. We were told it was “haunted” when we bought it but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless. Five nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason. Including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving.

The anonymous ad was placed on the nanny locating site childcare.co.uk by a couple in Jedburgh Roxburghshire. Owners of the site noticed a lot of activity on the ad and assumed it had to do with the generous annual salary and 28 days of vacation plus bank holidays. Then they read the fine print.

“We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house, but we’re happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it’s important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.”

$64,000! Keep repeating this over and over as you fill out the application. The nice couple points out that there’s a spectacular view of the Scottish Borders. It’s a spacious historic property and you get your own “comfortable room with en-suite bathroom and private kitchen.”

While you’re thinking about all the ways you can spend that money in Scotland, you probably overlooked the fact that there’s not much in the ad about the ghosts, other than the ‘strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving.’ Was someone murdered there? Is it built on an old cemetary? Some royal scandal hidden there?

$64,000, Twenty eight days vacation, your own bathroom with a view!

“We are keen to find the perfect long term nanny, so if you’d like to be considered for this rewarding and exciting position, please do get in touch with us.’

Just don’t look out the window after dark!

Destination America reported that Harry Potter fans are claiming that a dementor was seen flying across the moon.

Before we get into the crux of this story we first need to go over a key definition. Harry Potter universe there exists a thing called a dementor. According to the fandom wiki page for the Potter books a dementor is among the foulest creature to walk the earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope and happiness out of the air around them… “Get too near a dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you.”

Video footage has recently emerged online of a mysterious shape flying across the face of the moon that theorists are saying is most likely one of these dementors.

The video which is believed to have been shot from an observatory in Oman, is creating quite a stir among UFO and Harry Potter enthusiasts alike. While many people are convinced that the object could be nothing other than a dementor, there are conflicting theories pointing towards it actually being a space squid or merely contrails from an airplane. What do you think? Should we be getting our wands ready, or is there a more logical explanation for this?

Mail Online reported this week that we could soon be reversing death. A U.S. company is starting trials to reawaken the dead in Latin America in a few months and this is how they’ll do it…

A U.S. firm called Bioquark plans to test stem cell theory on brain dead patients, the method, which hasn’t been tested on animals, will be tested in Latin America. The team outlined a trial proposal last year to do in India but were shut down.

The first attempts to bring people back from the dead are slated to start this year. Bioquark, a Philedelphia based company, announced in late 2016 that they believe brain death is not irreversible. Now CEO Ira Pastor has revealed they will soon be testing an unprecedented stem cell method on patients in an unidentified country in Latin America.

To be declared officially dead in the majority of countries, you have to experience complete and irreversible loss of brain function or brain death.

According to Pastor, Bioquark has developed a series of injections that can reboot the brain and they plan to try it out on humans this year. They have no plans to test it on animals first.

The inaugural stage of the trial will likely follow the plans laid out last year for a trial in India. Initially, Pastor and his collaborator Himanshu Bansal, an orthopedic surgeon, planned to carry out the first tests in India. Days after announcing their ambitions, the plan was blocked by the Indian Council of Medical Research urging the duo to take their trials somewhere else.

However, the study record detail gave the wider public an idea as to how they plan to approach the trials. The first stage, named “First in Human Neuro-Regeneration and Neuro-Reanimation was slated to be a non randomized single group proof of concept study.

The team said they planned to examine individuals aged 15-65 declared brain dead from a traumatic brain injury using MRI scans, in order to look for possible signs of brain death reversal.

Specifically they planned to break it down into three stages.

First they would harvest stem cells from the patients own blood and inject this back into their body. Next the patient would receive a dose of peptides injected into the spinal cord. Finally they would undergo a 15 day course of nerve stimulation involving lasers and median nerve stimulation to try and bring about the reversal of brain death whilst monitoring the patients using MRI scans.

The idea of consent in this context is complicated since the patients are all technically dead. However, the definition of death is also more blurry than it once was. Confirming death used to be straightforward when the heart stopped beating, a person was unresponsive and no long breathing, they were dead.

Now it’s more complex since we have more advanced ways to keep oxygen pumping through the body, keeping the brain stem functioning, for example by keeping a person on a ventilator.

It means that most countries today, including the US and the UK identify death as permanent loss of brain stem function.

The Bioquark trials are part of a broader project called ReAnima. Pastor is on the advisory board for ReAnima. According to the website, the project is exploring the potential of cutting edge biomedical technology for human neuro-regeneration and neuro reanimation.

Speaking to Mail Online last year, Pastor said: The mission of the REAnima Project is to focus on clinical research in the state of brain death, or irreversible coma, in subjects who have recently met the Uniform Determination of Death Act criteria, but who are still on cardio pulmonary or trophic support. A classification in many countries around the world known as the living cadaver.

Michael says that audiences can expect to see a classic “haunted house scary movie” – but one that’s very much a drama about people dealing with grief and loss. He adds, from what we’ve done over the last couple of months I think everyone will be pretty scared.

Destination America reported this week on an immersive video game called “Night Terrors” that turns your home into a haunted house. Video games have come a long way from the days of throwing barrels and hitting turtle shells with a hammer. Advancements in technology have made it so that there’s not much difference between playing a game and being in a game. The Night Terrors: The Beginning puts a terrifying spin on the augmented reality craze using a combination of intense graphics, spooky\realistic sounds and syncs it all up with your smart phone’s own built in capabilities (flashlight, shake, etc) to essentially turn whatever environment you’re in into a haunted house. Made by Novum Analytics they describe the game in full on the website as such: Night Terrors is a highly immersive photorealistic augmented reality survival horror game for mobile devices. Gameplay takes place at home, after dark with the lights off and your headphones on.

Night Terrors is only available on iTunes currently so for Android users such as myself, I checked out the Google app store and found something similar called Ghost Snap. It was sort of cool but I was disappointed at how slowly things moved. So you may just need to wait for the real deal to comes to Android users.

CBS Detroit stated that a massive ghost ship washed ashore on a Florida Beach. The U.S Coast Guard sealed off the area to the public after a giant ghost ship washed ashore on a Florida beach, after a night of stormy weather.

The Coast Guard said the barge broke free from its cables, earlier this week, while it was being towed by another ship and it ended up lodged in the sand at St. Andrews State Park near Panama City.

Seeing the massive worn ship beached with no crew aboard was a chilling feeling for most reported one witness who posted a video to YouTube. Coast Guard officials say the ship, which is used to carry scrap metal is empty and poses no environmental threat. We know the vessel. It’s a normal traffic route for them. They go from New Orleans or Mobile Alabama and transfer it to Tampa for scrap metal. Coast Guard spokesman Brian Hanson told MyPandhandle.com

The US Coast Guard said the vessel was expected to be towed from the beach by Wednesday, although photos posted to social media Thursday showed it sill parked against the shoreline. Reports say rough waters may be slowing the removal process.

People.com reported A first look that Helen Mirren plays real life owner of the famous Haunted Winchester House. In a people exclusive first look at the upcoming supernatural thriller Winchester, the actress bears a striking resemblance to real life rifle heiress Sarah Winchester, whose spooky 160 plus room mansion has long fascinated tourists visiting San Jose California.

“I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe people can be haunted and Sarah Winchester is a haunted person” Mirren 71 tells People “That was the appeal in this role”.

Though audiences will get an inside look at Winchesters labyrinth home, the film’s directors, Michael and Peter Spierig want to prove that there’s more to the mystery of the mansion than just a ghost story (but audiences can still expect to be scared).

“Sarah Winchester is quite a remarkable woman, and the idea of her being just a crazy person who was haunted by ghosts is not the full story.” Says Peter of the heiress who died in 1922. “Helen Mirren, in particular I think is great in portraying that.”

The movie which will hit theaters in spring 2018 is based on the true story of Winchester, a woman who was convinced that she was being haunted by the ghosts of people who were killed by the famous rifle that her family manufactured. After the sudden death of her husband and child she threw herself into never-ending construction on her sprawling mansion – which features stairways to nowhere and doors that open onto walls – to appease the spirits.

As the film depicts, a skeptical San Francisco psychiatrist name Eric Price (played by Jason Clarke) was sent to evaluate Winchester’s state of mind and discovered that her obsession with the house may not have been all in her head.

“It’s about a woman who is deeply troubled by the violence of the rifle and what she inherited.” Says Peter. “She’s trying to come to terms with that.”

Though the mystery of the mansion is famous, there is little known about who Winchester was as a person, so the directors based their research for the film on public records and letters.

“It’s hard to pinpoint exactly who she was; she was a very private woman.” Explains Michael. “I think that the truth is that she was an intelligent woman and a little misunderstood.”

Peter adds that she was an inventor who “was passionate about design and building”. She was one of the first people to ever have a telephone and her house includes inventions like the intercom and irrigation systems that she built herself.

In order to accurately depict the mansion, the Speirig brothers recreated the mansion and some of its rooms in Australia, and will wrap the film in the coming months with a shoot at the actual home in California.

Michael says that audiences can expect to see a classic “haunted house scary movie” – but one that’s very much a drama about people dealing with grief and loss. He adds, from what we’ve done over the last couple of months I think everyone will be pretty scared.

A good news story for us Brian – Destination America reported this week that Paranormal Researchers are actually pretty normal.

Exploring ghosts, aliens, UFO’s and cryptozoology used to be seen as a hobby for only the very strange. The stereotype was people wearing tinfoil hats, sitting in their mother’s basement. All that has changed says a new study that looked at people who go into the field of paranormal research.

“It’s a very diverse group of people,” said Simon Fraser, University Geography Professor Paul Kingsbury, who is studying paranormal investigators and what motivates them to work in a field many don’t believe in. “Their passion is very strong” he said.

As part of his study, Kingsbury took part in eight ghost investigations, two UFO conferences and one Sasquatch hunt. He said the conferences function much like an academic forum where there is debate and as many skeptics attend as true believers.

“There are keynote speakers, Q & A’s, break-out sessions, late night hotel lobby bar conversations about different theories”, said Kingsbury. “These conferences are very much centers for teaching and learning. I’m interested, as a (cultural) geographer, how the conferences bring people together in these relatively small places.”

With so many smart, seemingly normal people investigating claims of the paranormal, it’s not hard to imagine the mainstreaming of the topics. When that happens, we may finally get to the bottom of some mysteries concluded Kingbury.

The Vintage News.com claims there is now a website that can tell you how many people have died in your house.

This website has been created so that people can look up their address and find out how many people have died there.

The website is called www.diedinhouse.com and uses information from news announcements, death certificates and police records to identify whether or not one or more people have died at an address.

The website is said to have provided real information about the Amityville house murders. Just as Halloween has come and gone, you can look up the information about your own house.

The site features a search function whereby you input your address and it will search through millions of records to discover if anyone had ever died there. It is a paid for service and the site charges around $12 for a basic search. The site has expanded its offering to also tell you whether any other incidents have occurred at your house such as meth usage.

The data goes back to the 1980’s when information and records began to be digitalized and now they are looking at how they can upload data prior to this. The owner of the website said that he had found out that someone had died in a house he was about to purchase.

He says he thought that the owners would have to notify potential purchasers about this type of information but it is not a legal requirement. When he started to look into it he realized that there was no one place that you can go to, to find out this kind of information.

Mr Condrey says that around 4.5 million houses across the US alone have had people die in them. Diedhouse.com is the first known hub to host this information.

Journalists have checked the site to see if it is accurate and found that it did show up that a house they searched for in Ohio had at one time been the site of a meth lab, as well as the murders at Amityville and ownership of an office building in New York.

At the moment the site can only search for addresses in the US and despite the fact that it is not a legal requirement to reveal a death in a house prior to selling, it can devalue a property by 25% and it could be on the market double the amount of time.

The site is benefiting those who have long held the belief that their house was haunted. It might add to a rental’s sinister appeal, especially around Halloween. On the other hand, the less-than-savoury findings could have real implications for home owners. According to Forbes, a house having a history of a death or a violent crime can lower its value by 30%.

Condrey revealed that since setting the site live he has had a wave of hits from people in Texas and California. California residents, he says, are particularly interested in the many famous murders and deaths in the state and the possibility that one may be linked to their house.

“It would bother me in I knew someone died in my house” Condrey said. “For instance, I couldn’t live in a house where there was a murder-suicide. “Some people don’t have a problem with knowing someone died in their home, but when you remind them that this knowledge could affect their home values, they change their tune.”

Fox News reported on a story that an 8 year old boy says that Angels saved his father’s life.

The 8 year old boy in Idaho says Angels helped him lift a car off his father’s body to save his life.

J.T. Parker was working on a Toyota Prius with his 17 year old brother Mason and their father Stephen at the Sugar City home last summer.

“We were pulling the engine out of the car, and after we got it jacked up, I climbed under there to take the axels off,” Stephen recalled. “The one axle came off pretty easily, but the other side wasn’t coming off”.

When he went to adjust the second axle and move the jack, the car fell on him. J.T. was the only one around as Mason had gone inside the house minutes earlier with a cut hand.

“I yelled to J.T. on the other side of the car, “Jack it up quick! Jack it up quick!” Stephen said. “I couldn’t move at all. I was totally trapped, and then I passed out. It was all in his hands, and I thought, “This is it. There’s no way he can jack up this car because it took my 17 year old son and I both to jack it up the first time.”

Mustering all the courage and strength he could, J.T. adjusted the jack and started jumping up and down on the handle. He weighed around 50 pounds.

It was scary and I didn’t think that I could jack the car up, but I just kept on trying” J.T told EastIdahoNews.com

After 15 minutes of jumping up and down the car slowly started raising off his father. Once it was completely off, J.T. ran to get his brother and call 911.

“All I remember is I felt peace, “Stephen said. “I remember seeing white, like a nice happy day. The clouds were going by, and everything was happy and peaceful”.

His wife Jodi arrived while the three Parker men waited for emergency responders.

“When I got there, I saw my husband underneath a car,” Jodi told the website – “my heart just sank, and I didn’t know what to expect”.

Stephen was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center via helicopter in critical condition.

He had 13 broken ribs and no internal damage.

“it was just a miracle,” said Stephen, who was home two days after the July 30 accident.

Last week the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho presented J.T. with one of its 11 “East Idaho Real Heroes” award for 2017.

“This whole thing is a miracle. There’s no other way to describe it,” his mother said. “There’s no way that little boy could have done that. I just felt that it is a responsibility we now have to tell people that miracles still exist.”

Iflscience.com reported on an enormous cavern containing a Knights Templar Church being found hiding beneath a farmer’s field.

The Knights Templar were a Catholic military order that was active just under 1,000 years ago. With their white mantles and red crosses, they quickly became notorious for their wealth, power, and abilities in combat during the Crusades. Today, they’re a source of fascination for archaeologists, novelists and scriptwriters in equal measure and any new discovery is pounced upon by anyone with a mote of curiosity in their storied history.

A few years back, a man-made cavern was discovered hiding beneath a farmer’s field in Shrophshire England. Initially, the only way into the concealed chamber was through a tiny rabbit hold, and after some careful excavation, explorers found that they were standing in a previously unseen temple used by the Knights themselves.

Birmingham photographer Michael Scott decided to pay a visit to these mysterious caverns recently and document them in all their ancient glory on his camera, and it’s safe to say that this particular historical wonder is certainly a surreal sight to behold. You can see a walk through of the cavern and church in a video at www.iflscience.com

Stunningly well preserved 700 years after they were originally carved out of the land, the order likely used this earthen temple as a place to hide, plot, worship and scheme away from prying eyes.

The shape of the subterranean hideaway is rather specific, with circular naves prominently featured. This is thought to be because the Knights wanted their architecture to match that of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the supposed burial place of Jesus Christ.

The caves were closed in 2012 after people, being generally quite terrible covered some of the temple in graffiti and dumped a load of garbage down through the entrance. With special permission, however, some people are still allowed in to explore them.

This is just one of many uncovered Knights Templar sites around the world. Fortifications and artifacts can be found all across Europe and the Middle East, particularly around the so called “Holy Land”.

After Christian military forces were pushed back out of this hallowed region, support for the order began to wane. By the time France’s King Phillip IV took power, the royal family was deeply indebted to the falling order and rumors began to spread about them that sowed the seeds of distrust in the public.

With general opinion turning against them, the King ordered their arrest and torture in 1307. Using false confessions and presenting them to Pope Clement V as evidence of their treachery, the Knights Templar was finally disbanded in 1312 and they’ve become a somewhat legendary and conspiratorial organization ever since.

In my last report for the night we go local with a story from clickondetroit.com that reported an old ghostly northern Michigan orphanage is being turned into apartments.

In Marquette, Michigan developers say they’re on track to convert an old orphanage in the Upper Penninsula into apartments.

Holy Family Orphanage in Marquette is 102 years old but has been vacant since 1981. The Mining Journal says renovations started last summer and could be completed by fall.

Black spruce trees that were in front of the building are being turned into furniture.

Amy Lerlie is executive director of Community Action Alger Marquette. She says the goal is to have affordable housing in downtown Marquette.

Fourteen apartments will be set aside for the homeless, disabled or people with special needs. Their share of the rent will depend on income.

Rent on the other units will depend on the apartment size, family size and income. The development is called Grandview Marquette.

The old Marquette orphanage has a ghostly history though. Opened in 1915, the orphanage housed mostly Native American Children who were removed from their tribe to accommodate their integration into white culture.

The orphanage had fully furnished classrooms, kitchens, dining halls and bathrooms. Urban legend says the orphanage was run by abusive nuns and you can still hear the children playing.

Here’s an account from UP Investigators…

Most of the windows and doors are locked and boarded up. The building has odd walls and crevices from being built onto over the years. Inside, there is very little light and it is totally dark on the lower two levels. It is rotten and falling apart. The layout of the building is very confusing, many of the floors have the same rooms and same colors painted in the rooms. There are multiple stairwells and several small side rooms, dumbwaiter shafts and an open elevator shaft. Many of the doors on the back of the building open into open space, as there is no longer a fire escape. The atmosphere of the building is very menacing and depressing at the same time. Neighboring houses around the orphanage report seeing figures of children in the building, hear laughing or screaming and reported different stories. Children were reported to have been beaten or killed and one story is that a little girl caught pneumonia and died from playing outside in a blizzard. Her body was put on display as a lesson to the other children of why not to play outside. Overall, it’s not surprising why it’s considered haunted; it’s very large and creepy.

With all that creepy going on it would be interesting to see what their advertisements look like!
